Fostering Employee Contribution
SUCCESS
STORY #5
Challenge
Assist the UAW-Ford National Programs Center and the UAW-Ford
National Joint Committee on Health and Safety design and develop a
performance-based training solution for a new UAW-Ford Ergonomics
Surveillance Tool. This
surveillance tool identifies and prioritizes high-risk jobs. The
target audience for the tool and training were members of the Local
Ergonomics Committees within the manufacturing facilities of Ford
Motor Company and a Tier 1 Supplier.
This project needed to integrate multidiscipline and
diverging team members as well as individuals from various
universities who developed the surveillance tool (they were the subject
matter experts).
Solution
BEI
facilitated a kick off meeting with all involved team members and
subject matter experts (SMEs) to achieve a shared understanding of
the project goals, information sources, performance targets,
schedule, constraints, and other important factors that influenced
how the project would be conducted. SMEs were made part of the
design team to foster a strong partnership to ensure that to-date
investment could be leveraged down to the plant floor. Next, a
Front-End Analysis was conducted to provide a clear picture of the
skill and knowledge required for successful job performance, to
profile target audience knowledge and skills, and to identify
instructional strategies and delivery methods.
BEI
then created a learning system that included a two-day workshop
focused on hands-on application, case study examples to illustrate
key content, job aids to ensure consistent and reliable application
on the plant floor, and videos representing the manufacturing
entities for structured activities as well as instruction (these
were embedded into the training materials). Deliverables also included an Instructor’s Guide, a
Participant’s Guide, presentation materials for a UAW-Ford
Ergonomics Conference, and a Pilot.

that focused on :
- Project Management
- Change Management
- Facilitation
